Declaration in connection to the Current Situation in Myanmar
(Declaration No. 5/2007)

1. A certain number of monks and people protested on the streets in connection to the sudden hike of fuel and gas prices during September in Myanmar.

2. We believe that to intentionally create confrontation between the Buddhist Monks and public and the Military Government is an extremely despicable act.

3. It is very saddening to know that some people were fatally injured and many monks and people had to be detained because of the riots.

4. We welcome the fact that the Military Government had expedited the investigative process of the detained monks and people as well as other positive processes in political matters.

5. We believe that to achieve national reconciliation and democratic transformation in Myanmar, instead of protesting the Military Government on the Streets, we should all collaborate with the Military Government to expedite the Implementation of the (7) step political road map.
